The results of the city’s public engagement process to help evaluate the 2018 Winter Parking Restriction pilot project are now available. View the ‘What we Heard’ document at engagestjohns.ca.

On January 30, 2018 the City initiated an overnight parking restriction on sections of Water Street and Duckworth Street between 3:30 and 6:30 a.m. The purpose of the restriction was to enhance snow clearing in the downtown core. The restriction was lifted on March 26.

Residents and businesses participated directly in the public engagement process which included:

  • Meeting with the City’s Downtown Advisory Committee
  • Focus group with individuals impacted by the restriction
  • Meeting with downtown business organizations
  • Survey of downtown business owners
  • Public ‘quick poll’ and discussion page on engagestjohns.ca
  • 394 visits to the engagestjohns.ca project page

A recommendation will be made to City Council for a final decision on the parking restriction prior to the 2018-19 winter season. Follow the project at engagestjohns.ca to stay up to date.
