Public Meeting - Synod West Wetland

The City of St. John’s has scheduled a Public Meeting (deferred from August) to discuss an application from Powderhouse Hill Investments Ltd. to rezone 7.1 hectares (17.5 acres) of land between 97 & 99 Penney Crescent  (Synod West Wetlands) from the Open Space Reserve (OR) Zone to the Residential Low Density (R1) Zone.
 
A recent report conducted by the City of St. John’s and CBCL Ltd. recommended removing the wetland protection from this land and Council has agreed to consider this. The purpose is to develop a residential neighbourhood of approximately 95 single houses. This portion of the wetland is owned by the Anglican Church. Only this portion will be developed; the remainder, owned by another party, is not part of this application. A Municipal Plan amendment will be required. A Land-Use Assessment Report (LUAR) is available for review.

The Public Meeting will be held on Thursday, January 11, 2018, at 7 p.m., Foran/Greene Room, fourth floor, City Hall. Any person wishing to make a submission on this application prior to the public meeting must provide a signed written statement to Office of the City Clerk either by mail: PO Box 908, St. John’s, NL, A1C 5M2; fax: 709-576-8474 or by email: cityclerk@stjohns.ca. Written and verbal representations may also be submitted at the time of the public meeting. Written submissions received will become a matter of public record.  The Public Meeting will be chaired by a member of Council.
