Mayor Dennis O’Keefe, Chair of the Cruise St. John’s Committee, and Deputy Mayor Shannie Duff, Chair of the Arts Advisory Committee, wish to advise that the City is currently seeking proposals from the local arts community for “cultural performance programs” that can be delivered to cruise ship visitors. These performances are designed to showcase St. John’s culture and heritage to visiting tourists through song, dance, musical performance, etc.

“Cruise ship visits have a very positive economic impact on the City and at least 16 cruise ships are expected for 2013, with over 20,000 visitors,” says Mayor O’Keefe. “Cruise St. John’s partners plan special activities for all cruise visitors and these performances will enhance their experience in the port city.”

Deputy Mayor Duff is delighted with the expansion of this program.

“This is an excellent opportunity for us to showcase the artistic talent in our City, and at the same time, provide cruise ship visitors with a unique and lasting experience during their stay,” says Deputy Mayor Duff.

Proposals must be submitted in accordance with guidelines outlined in the Terms of Reference, which are available by calling Alana Jones at (709) 576-2315 or by E-mail: tourismdevelopment@stjohns.ca.

The deadline for submission of proposals is 3 p.m., Friday, April 12.
