City Celebrates $25,000 Grant for Tree Planting

The City is the recipient of a $25,000 grant from Tree Canada and CN Rail for tree planting in city parks and open spaces, as part of the EcoConnexions – From the Ground Up Program.

The grant was celebrated today with a tree planting ceremony in Bowring Park. Trees planted under this grant are in addition to the 400 to 500 trees that are planted by the city each year.

Planting under the grant program has recently been completed with a total of 100 new trees planted in Brookfield Road Park, Kelly’s Brook Park, Kitty Gaul Park, and Quidi Vidi Park.

CN Rail EcoConnexions – From the Ground Up Program

EcoConnexions is a community program that provides funding of up to $25,000 for the greening of municipal properties across Canada and the United States. With partners, Tree Canada and America in Bloom, CN Rail have helped 230 municipalities establish tree planting initiatives in a sustainable, environmentally responsible manner since 2012. In combination with a mass reforestation program, over 2 million trees have been planted across Canada and the U.S.
