The City of St. John’s Snow Daze is an annual winter celebration fostering community spirit and encouraging residents to enjoy everything winter has to offer. Snow Daze events take place over a nine-day period from Feb. 8 to 16 and the event listing can be viewed on the City’s website.

This year an exciting addition to the Snow Daze calendar of events is the official opening of the Bannerman Loop taking place on Saturday, Feb. 8 at 11 a.m. with a performance by Alan Doyle of Great Big Sea and an appearance by Buddy the Puffin of Ice Caps fame. A free Metrobus shuttle service will run from the Confederation Building between 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. as parking near Bannerman Park is limited.

In case of inclement weather the Bannerman Loop event will move to Sunday, Feb. 9 at 11 a.m.

“The response to the Bannerman Loop has been tremendously positive since it opened on Christmas Eve,” says Councillor Bernard Davis, Chair, Community Services and Housing Standing Committee. “It’s fitting to have the official opening of the Loop kick-off our Snow Daze celebrations, which offers many fun and active opportunities for all ages and interests.”

Snow Daze has something for everyone with outdoor, cultural and family-oriented events. Many of the activities offered are free of charge, including free ski and snowshoe rentals at the Pippy Park Winter Activity Centre, performances by youth folk musicians at the Quidi Vidi Village Plantation and an outdoor active playgroup at the Wedgewood Park Recreation Centre.

The complete listing of all Snow Daze events can be viewed on the City’s website.
