Nominations Open For City Tourism Awards
The City of St. John's is calling for nominations for its 22nd annual Tourism Awards. Each year the City presents a number of awards to ambassadors of our city.
“The purpose of the awards is to heighten awareness among the general public, the business community and government that tourism is a strong and viable contributor to the St. John’s economy,” says Councillor Bruce Tilley, chair of the Economic Development and Tourism Standing Committee.
Councillor Tilley also announced that the City will present a new award in 2013, the Discovery Award. This new award acknowledges the important contribution of new and innovative tourism-related products, services or activities, which enhance the St. John’s tourism industry.
The six annual awards include:
Legend Award
Presented annually, this pinnacle award recognizes the individual or group who has made significant contributions to the enhancement of tourism in St. John’s.
Event of the Year Award
Presented annually to the group or organization who, through the production of an event, best exemplifies the spirit of St. John’s and generates tourism visitation to the St. John’s region.
Signal Award
Presented annually to the individual, group or company who has made significant contributions to the evolution and sustainability of the cruise ship industry in St. John’s.
Victoria Wagon Award
Presented annually to a taxi driver who best exemplifies the spirit of exceptional customer service.
Discovery Award
Presented annually, this award acknowledges an individual, business, attraction, event, or community organization that offers new and innovative tourism-related products, services, or activities which enhance the St. John’s tourism industry.
Destination St. John’s Award of Distinction
Presented annually by Destination St. John’s to a conference chair/committee who, through the hosting of a conference in St. John’s, has generated significant economic benefits and increased the profile of St. John’s.
