The City of St. John’s is now accepting nominations for the annual Certificates of Recognition for Outstanding Work on Buildings in Heritage Areas. Each year on Heritage Day, the third Monday in February, the City of St. John’s recognizes local property owners for outstanding work on buildings in the City’s heritage areas.

“There are many excellent examples of restorations and new buildings that blend well into our heritage areas and that’s the kind of effort we want to recognize,” says Councillor Sandy Hickman, Co-chair of the Heritage Advisory Committee.

“We encourage all citizens and property owners to nominate any property they feel deserves this recognition,” adds Councillor Dave Lane, Co-chair of the Heritage Advisory Committee.

In 2013, seven properties were presented with certificates including Mallard Cottage, the Quidi Vidi Village Plantation and the YellowBelly Brewery and Public House.

To nominate a property, or for more information, contact the City’s Heritage Office by calling (709) 576-6975 or by e-mail at pmercer@stjohns.ca. The deadline to submit nominations is Wednesday, Jan. 22.
