The City of St. John's is seeking nominations for its 23rd Annual Tourism Awards, which are presented in June during National Tourism Week.

“The purpose of the awards is to recognize our best in tourism, while at the same time heighten public awareness that tourism is a strong and viable contributor to the St. John’s economy,” says Councillor Bernard Davis, Chair of the Community Services and Housing Standing Committee. “The City presents five awards in a variety of categories to acknowledge the important contribution that members of the tourism industry make to the local economy. If residents know of someone who should be nominated we encourage them to submit a nomination form for consideration.”

The main award is the Legend Award, which recognizes the individual or group who has made a significant contribution to the growth and enhancement of tourism in St. John’s. Other awards include the Event of the Year Award, Signal Award (cruise), Victoria Wagon Award (taxi driver) and Discovery Award (innovation). In addition to the City’s award presentation, Destination St. John’s will present the Destination St. John’s Award of Distinction.

More detailed criteria and nomination forms are available on the City’s website under Forms and Applications – Tourism.

Nominations close 4 p.m. on Tuesday, April 15, 2014.
