St. John's and Mount Pearl Face Off for Charity

Friday, January 31, 2014 - 11:45 AM

In a city-to-city combat like no other, St. John's and Mount Pearl city councillors and staff are gearing up for a match of skill, speed and strategy to raise funds for charity. The St. John's team will ‘capitalize’ on their vim and vigour and out skate their opponents.

The 1st Annual Twin Cities Winter Classic takes place at 2 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014. The Twin Cities Winter Classic is part of the ‘Reason for the Rink’ fundraising challenge and the coach of the St. John’s team, Mayor Dennis O’Keefe, will rally his team to victory.

“Our first on-ice match takes our city-to-city friendly rivalry to new levels,” says Coach Dennis. “We plan to raise significant funds, keep our sticks on the ice but put our rivals in the penalty box.”

Cheer on your favorite team and support local charities: Easter Seals NL, Rainbow Riders and Mazol Shriners. Make a donation and watch the game online at www.reasonfortherink.com
