Mayor's Advisory Committee on Affordable Housing Forum

The Mayor’s Advisory Committee on Affordable Housing will host a forum titled ‘Make Room in the Boom’ on Thursday, Nov. 28 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Holiday Inn. The forum brings together government, community members and local builders to develop practical ideas on how to include more affordable and attainable housing options in the midst of economic prosperity.

The Canadian Home Builders Association Newfoundland and Labrador will present ‘Building Yes: A NIMBY Toolkit’ during breakfast, starting at 8:30 a.m. The toolkit was designed in partnership with the City of St. John’s to assist elected officials, builders and community advocates to integrate affordable housing choices throughout the city.

A panel will also present ideas on ‘making room in the boom’ for housing affordability solutions. Eight concurrent small group sessions will occur with topics including ‘Housing Outside the Box: Building NL’s First Shipping Container Housing Demo’ and ‘Knocking on Heaven’s Door: Mobilizing Faith Communities for Housing Solutions’.
