City Actively Addressing Potholes

Tuesday, January 14, 2014 - 12:00 PM

The recent freeze/thaw cycle in the City has led to some damage to City roads which the Department of Public Works is now addressing.

“Water that seeps into small crevices in the road, expands in winter as it freezes and once the roads begin to thaw we start to see the formation of potholes on City streets,” says Councillor Jonathan Galgay, Chair, Public Works Standing Committee. “We are actively working to fill in the potholes, but I would like to remind residents to please use care and caution when driving.”

The asphalt recycler is in operation at Robin Hood Bay Waste Management Facility from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. to provide the City with material to use in addressing damage to roadways. City crews have also marked some of the larger holes which have developed and will be addressed.

Residents are encouraged to contact Access St. John’s at 311 or (709) 754-CITY (2489) if they see road damage which needs to be addressed.
