The City of St. John’s welcomes the Town of Paradise to the Loop in Bannerman Park on Feb. 16, 2014 as part of their Snow and Ice Festival.

“We extend a warm welcome to the residents of Paradise to our paradise on ice,” said Mayor Dennis O’Keefe. “We are pleased to see that the Loop is attracting the attention of residents from neighbouring municipalities.”

The Loop in Bannerman Park has been gaining significant attention since first opening to the public on Christmas Eve, 2013. It has become a popular outdoor space for families, not only from the local community but from neighbouring communities as well; and the Council is pleased to see that residents from the towns in the greater St. John’s area are equally enthusiastic.

“We believe that recreational spaces like the Loop, Bowring Park and even Mile One are popular family destinations for all the citizens in our extended neighbourhood,” said O’Keefe. “We are pleased to play a role in municipal events around the region.”

The Loop offers a unique skating experience in the heart of the city. It is designed for leisurely skating and is family friendly. It is open every day of the week from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and is lit at night. Washroom facilities are available until 4 p.m. each day. There is no cost to skate the Loop. The infrastructure for the Loop was constructed at a cost of $1.8 million and was cost shared 50-50 by the Bannerman Park Foundation and the City of St. John’s.
