Check Your Mailbox for Vote by Mail Kit: Return Rate is Low

Friday, September 15, 2017 - 1:15 PM

The percentage of return Vote by Mail envelopes received by the City has declined significantly when compared to previous years. Since 2005 the City receives an average return rate of 25 per cent by the first Friday of the election period. The current return rate as of noon today is 3.28 per cent.

"We do not know why the numbers of returns, to date, are significantly lower than in previous elections," said Elections Coordinator, Karen Chafe. "We do want to encourage residents to check their mail and contact the City if they have not received their kit.”

If you have not received your kit please contact the City as soon as possible to confirm you are on the voters list. You can:

  • Check the on-line Voter Registration Portal; or
  • Call 311 and talk to one of our Citizen Service Representatives; or
  • Visit our Access St. John’s Service Centre on the first floor of City Hall.

Voters can mail the completed kit through Canada Post until September 22, or alternatively you can bring the kit to a drop box located outside the entrance to City Hall, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, until 8 p.m. on Election Day, September 26.

After September 22, Vote by Mail kits can be picked up and/or dropped off at City Hall, or at one of the ward based satellite centres on Election Day. Please note that Vote by Mail kits will only be available at the satellite drop-off centres on Election Day.
