The City of St. John’s is pleased to announce that the annual Music @ Harbourside concert series will be available as a virtual event for 2020, beginning October 5 and running until Thanksgiving, October 12.

“We were disappointed not to be able to offer our annual Music @ Harbourside concert series this summer due to the pandemic and social distancing guidelines, however we were not deterred from recording concerts to share with the public in a virtual way this fall,” explained Councillor Debbie Hanlon, lead on tourism and culture. “Our support for and appreciation of the value of music, particularly in difficult times, continues and we are excited to offer Music @ Home as a way of expressing our thankfulness this fall.”

A series of eight concerts will premiere on the City of St. John’s YouTube channel daily at 12:30 p.m., featuring incredible local talent, including up-and-coming youth performer opening acts coordinated in partnership with the Newfoundland and Labrador Folk Arts Society.

The City of St. John’s appreciates the valuable contribution artists make to the quality of life for our residents. The City invests annually in hiring local performers, providing grants to the local arts community and supporting arts and culture development in St. John’s.

The City’s Music @ series has been a launching pad for many musicians and has played an important role giving young musicians experience and exposure to a broad audience. In fact, some of our featured performers, including Rachel Cousins, got their start as youth performers in the Music @ concert series.

"Opportunities that the City of St. John’s creates for performers though the Music @ concert series are very important, especially for youth” says Rachel Cousins, Performer. “When I was younger, I found these platforms and performances very enjoyable. As I now play headlining stages, I feel so grateful to have these experiences. City staff are always so giving to the youth performers ensuring you get the most out of your gig which is greatly appreciated. Creating a bigger fan base, a comfortable show atmosphere and giving you a platform is what really makes this concert series special for youth performers."
