Thursday, November 29, 2012 - 2:45 PM

The pump which supplies water to the Kilbride area of St. John’s has been restarted and water has been restored to residents in this area. Residents of Kilbride are reminded that if they experience discoloured water to please not run their tap as water rationing is still in place throughout St. John’s.

The City of St. John’s continues to work on repairs to the Bay Bulls Big Pond Water Treatment Plant which ceased operations this afternoon after a fire in an electrical room. Electrical contractors are currently on site working to restore power to the facility.

The City continues to ask residents to only use water in emergency situations. Discretionary uses of water, such as dishes, laundry, bathing are prohibited at this time so that we can extend the life of our reservoirs.

Water rationing applies to residents of the City of St. John’s, City of Mount Pearl, Town of Conception Bay South, Town of Paradise and Town of Portugal Cove-St. Philips. In the City of St. John’s rationing applies to ALL residents regardless of which water supply you may connect to.

The Regional Water Committee would like to thank residents in advance for their cooperation.

Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
