Each year, the City of St. John’s supports local festivals and events through the Special Events & Festivals Grant Fund. On April 1, Council approved the expenditure of $100,000 in grants for festivals and events based upon recommendations made by an internal review committee who met recently to assess all submitted applications.

“Festivals and events have become a major attraction for visitors and local residents. They provide an opportunity to celebrate and showcase our rich culture and heritage,” says Councillor Bruce Tilley, Chair of the City’s Economic Development & Tourism Standing Committee. “The City of St. John’s is committed to developing and enhancing special event and festival celebrations that provide vibrant and diverse community experiences for residents and visitors to the region.”

The Special Events and Festivals Grant Fund was established in 2009 and since this time the City has supported approximately 24 festivals and events annually contributing over $485,000 in funding and in-kind support.
