Water Main Construction - Topsail Road/Craigmillar Ave.

Location:
Topsail Road, Craigmillar Ave., Shaw Street, Davidson Place
Start Date:
Thursday, August 22, 2013 - 4:30pm to Saturday, November 30, 2013 - 11:45am

The City of St. John’s is currently upgrading the water and sewer infrastructure along Topsail Road and Craigmillar Avenue. As a result of this work some sections of the existing water main must be taken out of service, which will interrupt the normal flow and circulation of the water supply to sections of Topsail Road (civic no. 2 to 124), Craigmillar Avenue (civic no. 4 to 55), Shaw Street (civic no. 1 to 23) and Davidson Place (civic no. 1 to 15).

This work may cause dirty or discoloured water during the construction period which will conclude for this construction season in November, 2013. As this is a significant upgrading project, work will likely begin again in spring, 2014. The City will keep you informed as to the status of the project as it moves forward.

In the interim, if you experience discoloured water during this time please run the cold water in your bathtub for 15 to 20 minutes. If the water does not clear during this period, please contact Access St. John’s at 311 or (709) 754-CITY (2489) and a City employee will be dispatched to investigate.

As a preventative measure, the City will routinely run water from area fire hydrants to promote water circulation and reduce instances of discoloured water.

The City will also collect water samples from the area regularly to ensure the quality of the drinking water meets the Canadian Drinking Water Standards.

The City of St. John’s apologizes for any inconvenience this project may cause and thank you for your patience. The safety and security of the our water and wastewater infrastructure is a top priority for the City of St. John’s and we will be investing more than $55 million into water and wastewater projects over the next three years.

If residents have any questions or concerns please contact Access St. John’s at 311 or (709) 754-CITY (2489).
