Sandy Hickman has been a member of St. John’s City Council for more 18 years in the position of Councillor At Large.

Councillor Hickman has a Bachelor of Physical Education and a Bachelor of Education from Memorial University of Newfoundland and went on to receive his Master of Arts in Sport Administration from the University of Alberta.
 
He was first elected to St. John’s City Council during a by-election in 2001 as a Councillor At Large and has been returned to the position in four subsequent election campaigns in 2005, 2009, 2013 and 2017.
 
Councillor Hickman is currently retired from his former position with the Department of Tourism, Culture and Recreation with the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador as a Marketing Specialist, where he worked closely with many provincial organizations. He also has a long track record of giving back to the community. He has served on many sport related committees and associations including Vice-President of the Royal St. John’s Regatta Committee; Secretary and Volleyball Canada Director with the Newfoundland and Labrador Volleyball Association. He has also been very active in youth sports having served as a coach in various sports for more than 38 years. Hickman was awarded with the 125 Anniversary of the Confederation of Canada Medal for service to sport in our province. He has also been very involved in the education system, having served as a school board trustee for six years.
 
He currently serves as Council lead on Transportation and Regulatory Services as well as on the Canadian Capital Cities Organization; the Taxi Committee; the Bowring Park Foundation; and the NL Sports Cente.
