Tax Information

On January 1, 2013, the City of St. John’s streamlined its commercial tax system creating one tax for commercial purposes - the Commercial Realty Tax.

Only commercial property owners pay Commercial Realty Tax to the City. Business owners who are leasing the space for their business (i.e., are not property owners) do not pay Commercial Realty Tax.

For further information, including how taxes might apply to home-based businesses and businesses in the downtown Business Improvement Area (BIA), please refer to the Frequently Asked Questions.
