Pesticides

The City of St. John's has not used any cosmetic pesticides in its playgrounds and sport facilities since 1998 and has been a leader in the province in calling for a ban on the use of cosmetic pesticides.

Due to public concern about pesticides being used in the urban environment, the City of St. John’s pest management program is targeted to promote plant health. However, in cases where public safety is threatened such as a wasp nest near a playground, the Parks and Open Spaces Division will use pesticides.

Parks and Open Spaces Division staff are available to provide advice to home owners.
