Traffic Signage and Pavement Markings

The Traffic Division is responsible for deciding where and what type of traffic signs and pavement markings are installed in the City. This includes all parking signs, stop signs, speed limit signs and other types of regulatory signs, as well as all warning signs. Pavement markings include lane and intersection markings, as well as crosswalks.

We use the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices and the Pedestrian Crossing Control Manual, which are produced by the Transportation Association of Canada, as guides. The manuals establish criteria and conditions under which traffic signs and markings may be used. This ensures that signs and markings are installed as uniformly and consistently as possible throughout the City.
