$50,000 Awarded to Support Affordable Housing

Today, the City of St. John’s announced the recipients of the Housing Catalyst Fund, a total of $50,000 has been awarded. Through this pilot fund, the City is working collaboratively with business owners and community groups to facilitate and plan housing solutions to enhance quality of life for individuals and families.

“It’s very important to the City that we have safe and affordable housing options for all residents,” said Deputy Mayor Ron Ellsworth, Chair of the Affordable Housing Working Group. “The Housing Catalyst fund provides us with new opportunities to collaborate with the community. I thank all applicants for their hard work and dedication to affordable housing.”

Housing Catalyst Fund Recipients:

  • Co-operative Housing Association Newfoundland & Labrador – ‘Cooperative Housing for Seniors’
  • Canadian Homebuilders Association NL – ‘Building a YIMBY Community’
  • NL Modular – ‘Lower Cost Housing Through Modular Solutions’
  • Cochrane Community Outreach and Performance Centre Inc. (CCOPC) – ‘More than a Home’
  • Stella's Circle – ‘Seniors with Complex Mental Health Needs and Aging in Community’ 

All projects are slated to be completed this year, and more details will be available once projects are underway. Applications were required to be solution focused, action oriented and in line with the City’s Affordable Housing Business Plan.

The Housing Catalyst Fund has been approved to continue in 2017, an additional $50,000 has been committed by Council.
