The City of St. John’s is celebrating Animal Control Officer Appreciation Week with a number of events throughout the week.

“Our staff in the Humane Services Division are second-to-none,” says Councillor At Large Sheilagh O’Leary, Chair of the Animal Care and Control Committee. “They all go above and beyond every day to ensure that all of the animals at our shelter receive the best care possible until they are able to find loving homes.”

The week’s celebrations begin on Monday, April 8 as Mayor Dennis O’Keefe signs the official proclamation during the City Council meeting.

On Wednesday, April 10, the staff is hosting an event beginning at 12 p.m., noon, at the Humane Services Shelter. Stop by and view the animals available for adoption and have a piece of cake to celebrate Animal Control Officer Appreciation Week.

“This is a great opportunity for the public to come into our shelter, learn more about what we do and see all of the wonderful animals that we have up for adoption,” says Councillor O’Leary.

During this week the Humane Services Shelter is also having a special where if you come in and adopt a dog or cat you can get them a companion at no extra charge.

Visit the City’s Facebook page to see a new photo album of adoptable animals called “Spring is Sprung at Humane Services”. These adorable cats and dogs are currently available for adoption at the Humane Services Shelter at 81 Higgins Line. The shelter is open Monday through Friday, 12 p.m., noon to 4 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday, 3 to 5 p.m.
