Bike Lanes to be Painted on Five Streets

City Council recently voted to reinstall and maintain painted bike lanes on five streets, in various areas of the city, which are outlined in the 2019 Bike St. John’s Master Plan.

In the coming weeks, unidirectional bike lanes will be painted on the following streets:

Airport Heights Drive (Parker’s Pond Road to Elderberry Place)
Viscount Street (Airport Heights Drive to Shared-Use Path at Portugal Cove Road)
Cowan Avenue (Frecker Drive to Topsail Road)
Mundy Pond Road and Campbell Avenue (Columbus Drive to Cashin Avenue Ext.)
Cashin Avenue Ext. (Mundy Pond Road to Blackmarsh Road)

They will be painted with bike symbols and bike lane diamonds, with parking permitted on one side of the street in most areas. Residents living on the above streets will receive a letter to notify them of the upcoming bike lane painting. This work will begin in the coming weeks.

Vehicles are not permitted to stop or park in bike lanes. Parking enforcement will provide a grace period prior to enforcing illegal parking in newly painted bike lanes.

These streets identified for painted bike lanes align with corridors that are outlined in the Bike Master Plan. They are important connections to existing bike routes or shared-use pathways, helping to create a dedicated network for people cycling in the city.
