Bowring Park Foundation is very excited to launch a new interactive way to learn about Bowring Park and to experience the park’s magic.

The ‘Explore Bowring Park’ mobile app, created by Battery Radio, is a free GPS-based app that guides visitors around the park to various ‘hot spots.’ Each hot spot has a story to tell. Some share stories about the park’s history and heritage while others uncover fascinating anecdotes. Each story is complimented with background sound effects relevant to the location and narrative.  This project would not have been possible without the generous support from the Government of Canada, through the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) which contributed $41,723 to help create the app.

“Bowring Park creates memories. For some of us, they can be some of our earliest memories. It’s where so many parents take their children and later in life, those children take their own. Helping the Bowring Park Foundation develop new, interactive experiences will bring more visitors to the Park, which is so important as we move out of the pandemic and reconnect with each other,” said the Honourable Seamus O’Regan Jr., Minister of Labour and Member of Parliament for St. John’s South – Mount Pearl on behalf of the Honourable Ginette Petitpas Taylor, Minister of Official Languages and Minister responsible for ACOA.

“We would like to sincerely thank ACOA for helping make this project a reality. It is imperative to our Foundation to preserve the heritage of the park and share its history of the last 108 years. Not only does this app feature the past in a fun and enlightening way, it also fosters physical activity and outdoor recreation.  It is available to anyone who has access to a smart phone or tablet and it can be enjoyed in the park or in the comfort of your own home.” says Sheri Wicks, Bowring Park Foundation Chair.

“It is wonderful to see that the local community can access a free App to learn about the colourful history and beauty of a park that is well known and liked here. Additionally, tourists coming to visit St. John’s this summer will be able to participate in a new, fun and interactive way to enjoy Bowring Park, the largest park in St. John’s,” says St. John’s Councillor Carl Ridgeley.

The Explore Bowring Park app is free to download and compatible on both Apple and Android devices. Visit the Apple App Store or Google Play Store to download the app.
