Canada Day and Memorial Day Events

Canada Day provides an opportunity for people to connect with each other and celebrate our community and country. While July 1 is a day of celebration across the country, for Newfoundland and Labrador it is also Memorial Day, a day of remembrance.

Memorial Day Parade and Service
The Royal Canadian Legion Newfoundland and Labrador organized a Memorial Day Parade that begins at the Sergeants’ Memorial on Queens Road at 9:50 a.m. on July 1. The Memorial Day ceremony takes places at 10:45 a.m. at the National War Memorial. For more information about the ceremony please contact Provincial Command by calling (709) 753-1054.

Sunrise Event
Signal Hill National Historic Site, from 6 to 7 a.m.
Be among the first in the country to start the Canada Day celebration, with a sunrise event on Signal Hill. A free Metrobus shuttle is available from the Signal Hill Visitor Centre. After the return shuttle, visit the Signal Hill Visitor Centre for a free cupcake.

Family Fun Day
King George V Park, from 12 to 4 p.m.
A full afternoon of family fun and entertainment is planned at King George V Park, 3 Carnell Drive. The event features inflatable bouncers, laser tag, interactive games, balloon twisters, a cultural concert, free cupcakes, and an interactive cultural experiences event in collaboration with Sharing our Cultures. The Community Food Sharing Association will be collecting nonperishable food items. Pets are not permitted at King George V Park.
 
In case of inclement weather, Family Fun Day will move to the Techniplex, 39 Churchill Avenue.

Concert and Fireworks 
Quidi Vidi Park Bandstand, from 8 to 10 p.m.
Attend a live concert at the Quidi Vidi Bandstand at 8 p.m. followed by fireworks at 10 p.m. Pet owners are reminded to keep their pets inside during the fireworks. The dog park at Quidi Vidi Lake, and a portion of the walking trail will be closed on July 1 to facilitate the fireworks display.

In case of inclement weather, the fireworks will be rescheduled to Sat. July 2 at 10 p.m.

• A free wheelchair accessible Metrobus shuttle is available from the Signal Hill Visitor Centre for the Sunrise Event at Signal Hill.
• For the Family Fun Day event, evening concert and fireworks, accessible parking spaces and GoBus drop-off and pick-up will be available at the Dominion parking lot (20 Lake Avenue). The GoBus must be booked in advance.
• The concert at the Quidi Vidi Bandstand is accessible by using the major pressed gravel path around Quidi Vidi Lake. Gender neutral, family, accessible washrooms will be available on site for all events.
