Canada Day Celebrations 2015

St. John’s Celebrates Canada Day from sunrise to sunset on Wednesday, July 1, with free events throughout the City.

The festivities begin with the 6 a.m. Sunrise Ceremony at Signal Hill National Historic Site. A free shuttle service by Metrobus will run from the Signal Hill Interpretation Centre, beginning at 4 a.m., a free GoBus service will also be available, to and from the event.
 
Starting at noon, family entertainment begins on Confederation Hill with bouncy castles, kids carnival, face painting, a cultural showcase and a concert on the Memorial Stage. Donations will be accepted for the Bridges to Hope Food Bank.
 
An evening concert at Quidi Vidi Lake will begin at 8:30 p.m., followed by fireworks at 10 p.m. Should weather conditions not be ideal, the fireworks will be rescheduled for July 2 at 10 p.m.
 
Road Closures and No Stopping - Tow Away Zones
For safety reasons, the following streets will be closed from 7:30 p.m. until after the fireworks:

  • The Boulevard
  • Legion Road
  • Lake Avenue
  • Carnell Drive
  • Clancey Drive
  • Lakeview Avenue

 
Vehicles parked in violation or parked such that they are obstructing traffic will be ticketed and towed. Parking lots on either side of the Quidi Vidi Dog Park will be closed. Accessible parking is available on a first come, first served basis in the Dominion parking lot. The same streets and parking lots will be closed approximately 7:30 p.m. should the fireworks be postponed to July 2.
 
Quidi Vidi Walking Trail – Partial Closure
A portion of the walking trail around Quidi Vidi Lake will be closed for fireworks set-up on July 1 and will be reopened after the fireworks display is completed. The dog park will not be affected. Pet owners - if your pet needs to go outside during the fireworks display, keep them on a leash for their safety.
