Citizen Satisfaction Survey

Thursday, March 01, 2018 - 3:30 PM

Over the next few weeks residents of St. John’s may be contacted to participate in the City’s first ever Citizen Satisfaction Survey. The survey is one of several ways Council will seek input from residents as it prepares for its next strategic plan and its budget exercise for 2019-21.

“City Council is keen to hear from residents before we begin our next three-year decision making process,” said Mayor Danny Breen. “Feedback collected during the survey will be used to inform a variety of programs, plans and services including the strategic plan and Budget 2019-21.”

Citizen Satisfaction Surveys are used in municipalities across the country to identify strategic priorities and service needs based on resident input. The survey questions will cover a wide range of topics such as: quality of life, city services, capital and operating budget spending, and election and governance.

“We plan to conduct a survey like this every two years or so, with this first survey providing a benchmark through which continuous improvement and ongoing performance can be measured,” said Mayor Breen.

The survey sample will be representative of the City’s population. Residents will be contacted by phone and selected through a random process. Although participation is voluntary, co-operation is encouraged to ensure that the information collected is as accurate and as comprehensive as possible. The survey will take approximately 12 to 15 minutes to complete and answers will be kept strictly confidential.

MQO Research will be conducting the survey. The margin of error is +/- 4.37 per cent, with a confidence level 95 per cent. Results will be published in the spring of this year.
