Friday, February 04, 2022 - 7:00 AM

Since the rain event and subsequent flooding on Sunday, Jan. 30, City crews have been busy repairing infrastructure damage to roads, trails, and parks. Staff are now focusing on preparing for another weather event forecasted for this weekend, calling for significant rain and freezing rain.

City Preparations
Public Works teams have been preparing sandbags and road barricades, clearing catch basins, culverts and ensuring waterways are clear from debris. Staff are fueling and preparing equipment, including trucks, loaders and graders. Vehicles are stocked with signs and barricades in case street closures are needed.

Information for Residents
For updates on traffic interruptions and road closures, residents can sign up for traffic advisory e-updates here, or check the city’s website under Public Advisory.

If you encounter a road or sidewalk hazard such as a downed tree, object, or a power line, it is important that you stay away from the area.

  • Report any road hazard to the City by contacting Access St. John’s at 311 or 754-CITY (2489), or online.
  • Downed power lines, outages or poles can be reported directly to Newfoundland Power online or by phone 1-800-474-5711.

Residents are asked to allow for extra time when commuting and avoid unnecessary travel during extreme weather.
