City Presents Twenty-Fifth Annual Tourism Awards

On November 3, members of St. John’s City Council welcomed tourism leaders from throughout the city to the twenty-fifth Annual Tourism Awards presentation at City Hall, where individuals and businesses were recognized for their outstanding contributions to the tourism sector in 2015.

“Tourism plays an increasingly important role in the City’s economy, and for the province as a whole” said Councillor Dave Lane, Chair of the Economic Development, Tourism and Public Engagement Committee. “On this the twenty-fifth anniversary of this award program we are pleased to recognize those who make substantial contributions to the industry, providing a welcoming and high quality experience for guests visiting our beautiful City.”

The following award winners represent the best St. John’s has to offer visitors from around the world.

  • Chef Jeremy Charles received the Legend Award for outstanding enhancements to the tourism industry.
  • Event of the Year has been awarded to the Confederation Hill Music Festival - Mighty Quinton Promotions.
  • The Signal Award, for outstanding contribution to the cruise industry goes to St. John’s Marine Pilots Lou Power, Paul Kean and Ramsey White.
  • Darren Steele of Newfoundland Tours received the Victoria Wagon Award.
  • The Discovery Award for innovative tourism-related products was presented Lori McCarthy of Cod Sounds.
  • The Sport Tourism Award was presented to the Newfoundland & Labrador Athletics Association for the Tely 10.
