City Selects New City Manager

Members of Council are pleased to announce that Mr. Kevin Breen has been offered the permanent position of City Manager for the City of St. John’s. Mr. Breen has been Acting City Manager for the past six months; he previously held the position of Deputy City Manager, Corporate Services.
 
A Selection Committee with the support of an external recruiting firm made the recommendation to Council today, which was accepted unanimously. The offer was conditionally accepted while the terms of Mr. Breen’s contract are negotiated, which is expected to be completed shortly.
 
“We were very impressed with the quality of candidates who put their names forward for this position,” said Mayor Dennis O’Keefe. “After a thorough search and review, we are confident that Mr. Breen is the right person to lead our City’s organization over the coming years.”
 
Kevin Breen was first hired by the City in 1993 and has worked in progressively responsible positions over the past 23 years. His background is in human resources and labour relations, first assuming a Director position in 2004 (Director, Human Resources) however he also held the position of Director, Streets and Parks (2012) and Deputy City Manager, Corporate Services (2014).

Mr. Breen has a Bachelors in Commerce from Memorial University and a Master’s in Business Administration from Athabasca University, Alberta.
