The City of St. John’s built heritage is a significant part of the City’s culture.  Each year on Heritage Day, the third Monday in February, the City takes a moment to recognize individuals and businesses for their outstanding heritage restoration efforts.

“Restoring and preserving our built heritage is a wonderful accomplishment that should be celebrated by the entire community,” said Councillor Art Puddister, Chair of the Planning Committee.

This year, Certificates of Recognition have been awarded to the following residents and businesses:

  • Bonnie Ryan, Chair, Chapel Restoration Committee – Blackhead, Cape Spear Inc. for Blackhead One Room School and Church Museum: 8 Blackhead Village Road.
  • Robert Mellin and Heidi Kravitz for 38 Hayward Avenue.
  • Gary Wadden on behalf of Saltwater Vision Inc. for 55 Duckworth Street.
  • Ashley Murphy on behalf of Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation for Cochrane House: 47 Cochrane Street.

“Congratulations to each of the award recipients on their commitment to heritage,” said Councillor Puddister. “Protecting our identity through smart urban planning and development has a positive impact on the community and our economy.”
