Community Capital Grants Awarded
Today, City Council awarded grant contributions totaling more than $500,000 in the form of direct cash grants and waiving of permits fees for local non-profit groups and organizations.
“The funding that we provide to community organizations enhances quality of life for residents throughout the city,” said Councillor Jamie Korab, Council Lead for Community Services. “Our Capital Grants program has a wide reach that will benefit youth, seniors, families, and athletes in the community.”
Annually, the City invites applications from groups seeking financial assistance to construct, expand and/or renovate a facility that meets a recreational, cultural or community need.
“The goal of our grants program is to encourage growth of non-profit groups and organizations that are making positive contributions to the city,” said Mayor Danny Breen. “It is important to support the efforts of the staff and volunteers who give so much of their time and resources to benefit the entire community."
The Grants Review Committee considers multiple factors when determining which organizations to support and the amount of each grant. Recommendations from the committee are based on the ability of an organization to manage the operating costs, availability of the facility/service to the public, and how the project or organization is otherwise funded.
