On Monday, May 8, City Council will vote to approve contributions totaling more than $300,000 in the form of direct cash grants and waiving of permits fees for local non-profit groups and organizations.

Annually, the City invites applications from community groups seeking financial assistance to construct, expand and/or renovate a facility that meets a recreational, cultural or community service need.

“Many hard working groups and volunteers operating community organizations require financial support to assist with their capital needs,” said Councillor Jonathan Galgay, Chair of Finance and Administration Standing Committee on. “Providing financial support and waiving permit and development fees for local groups will benefit a large number of residents who avail of their services.”

The goal of the grants program is to actively encourage the growth and stability of non-profit groups and organizations that to contribute to the general well-being of residents and the community.

“The positive impact that non-profit groups have on our society is invaluable,” said Deputy Mayor Ron Ellsworth, Chair of Community Services Standing Committee. “This funding has a wide reach and will help these groups in providing quality services that are needed throughout our community.”

Multiple factors are given careful consideration and review in determining which organizations to support and the size of each grant. Decisions are based on the ability of the organization to manage the operating costs, the availability of the facility to the public and how the project or organization is otherwise funded.
