Community Grants: Over $1 Million Awarded

City Council has approved contributions of $1,279,180 in the form of direct cash grants for community based organizations.
 
“Supporting local groups and organizations is critical to the well-being of our city and enhances quality of life for all residents,” said Deputy Mayor Ron Ellsworth, Chair of the Community Services Standing Committee. “Our City does not operate in isolation and it is through cooperation and supporting community groups and non-profit organizations that we build a stronger community.”
 
Annually, the City invites applications from organizations and groups seeking financial assistance whose purpose is to contribute to the general well-being of the citizens of the City of St. John’s. Grants are awarded in four categories: Arts; Community; Special Events and Festivals; and, Sport.
 
“Our City has a vibrant and talented arts community,” said Councillor Sandy Hickman, Champion of the Arts and Culture Advisory Committee. “Through grants to individual artists and arts organizations we are pleased to show our support and appreciation for their hard work and dedication.”
 
Grant funding has been allocated as follows:
