Construction Update: Street Rehabilitation on Southlands Boulevard Continues

Friday, September 02, 2022 - 7:45 AM

As part of the Street Rehabilitation program, work on various sections of Southlands Boulevard has been ongoing throughout the summer and will continue to late fall 2022.

The work is being completed in two phases:

  • Phase one consists of the ongoing construction on Southlands Boulevard from Ruby Line to the on ramp to Pitts Memorial Drive. This is expected to be completed by the end of September.
  • Phase two consists of construction on Southlands Boulevard from on ramp to Pitts Memorial Drive to the City limits. This is anticipated to be finished by the end of October.

This project is being completed as part of annual road maintenance. Roadway asphalt, sidewalks, and curb and gutter is being repaired, replaced, and/or improved. Pyramid Construction Limited is contracted to complete the work for the City of St. John’s.

Traffic Update
Hours of work for this project are Monday to Friday,7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Traffic on Southlands Boulevard will be maintained with lane reductions anticipated to occur between September to the end of October; disruptions and slowdowns are expected.

As this work is happening at the start of the school year, the contractor will try and minimize the impact on traffic and buses on Southlands Boulevard during morning and afternoon rush hour times.

Pedestrian access will be maintained. There will be some noise and disruption as this work proceeds. We ask that the public follow all posted signage and flag persons will be stationed in and near the work zone to help direct traffic especially during rush hour. A map of construction is available here.

We apologize for any inconvenience caused during this construction work. To report issues, contact Access St. John’s by calling 311 or 709-754-CITY (2489) or email access@stjohns.ca.
