COVID-19 Cases, City of St. John’s

With COVID-19 cases on the rise in the Greater St. John’s area, the City of St. John’s has reduced programs and made arrangements, where possible, for City staff to work from home.

Our primary focus during this challenging time is to ensure that the services you rely on from the City continue with as little impact as possible. That being said, we too - like so many organizations - have been impacted. The City has two confirmed cases to date at City Hall and the Municipal Depot and a number of staff are self-isolating, due to close contacts. Our thoughts are with our impacted employees and their families.

It is important to note that no employees impacted by the current wave of cases has had direct contact with the public in any of our facilities. We respect the right to privacy for our employees and will not provide any further information unless it is in the public’s interest to do so.

Impacted City employees and their close workplace contacts have been self-isolating and following public health guidelines. In addition, City workspaces are receiving enhanced cleaning.
City Council wishes to express its gratitude to Public Health officials for their guidance and support through this challenging time.

Most importantly, Council wishes to thank the individuals who work for the City of St. John’s, providing essential services to our residents. We ask for the public’s patience as we strive to continue those services during a regional lockdown. With extra protocols in place to protect our employees and individuals in self-isolation throughout the organization, there may be unavoidable delays in our response times.
