COVID-19 Update on City Facilities

UPDATE January 19, 2022

City Recreation Programs remain on hold as Public Health Guidelines did not move from Alert Level 4 on Jan 18. The City will provide an update once more information is available from the Provincial Government.

ORIGINAL Public Service Announcement (January 4, 2022)

As a result of the province moving to Alert Level 4 as announced by the Chief Medical Officer of Health, please note the following changes to City of St. John’s services as of Tuesday, January 4:

Recreation Programs and Services

Starting today, the following City recreation programs and services are delayed:

  • All children, youth and family programs
  • All afterschool and pre-school programs
  • All adult and seniors programs
  • All water and dryland fitness programs
  • All swimming lessons
  • All racquetball court rentals

An update on these City programs and services will be provided on January 18, 2022.

The following City recreation programs will go ahead:

  • Recreational swimming at City Recreation Facilities.
  • The City of St. John’s Winter Activity Centre located at North Bank Lodge in Pippy Park is open (weather dependent). Please call 737-3651 for updates.

The Loop

The Loop at Bannerman Park will remain open with reduced maximum capacity from 80 persons to 40 persons per 50-minute skating sessions.

All other public health measures are still in place, including keeping two metres of physical distance from those that are not close contacts. Also, individuals 19 years or older must show proof of vaccination and photo identification to enter. To learn more, please visit The Loop webpage or call 733-LOOP (5667).

City Hall

The Building Counter will be closed for in-person planning and development applications and permits. We will process all applications by email. Please send your application by email at permits@stjohns.ca. If you are unable to compete the application through email, please call 576-8565. The Access Centre will be open to the public from Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Humane Services

Humane Services will be open by appointment only. If you have an emergency or animal control concern, please contact Access St. John's by calling 311 or 754-2489 (CITY) or email access@stjohns.ca.
