Mayor Dennis O’Keefe, Chair of the Cruise St. John’s Committee, is pleased to announce the 2015 cruise season begins on Friday, May 8 with the arrival of the first ship of the season.

“The arrival of the Silver Whisper marks the start of our most promising cruise season to date in the City of St. John's,” said Mayor Dennis O’Keefe. “We are scheduled to host 25 ship visits and an estimated 40,370 passengers and crew; this is an increase of 62 per cent over last year. According to passenger ratings and cruise line research, St. John’s is one of the strongest ports in eastern Canada, with survey results pointing to high satisfaction rates with port appeal, safety, friendliness of people, cleanliness, touring options and more.”

The Silver Whisper, arriving on Friday, carrying 360 passengers and 300 crew members, is on a 15 day trip from the United States to Canada and Europe.

The 2015 cruise season will also see 9 inaugural ship visits including the Disney Magic, Saga Sapphire, Ocean Endeavour, AIDAMar and AIDADiva.  Holland America, Silversea Cruises, Fred Olsen Cruise Lines, Crystal Cruises, National Geographic, and Pheonix-Reisen will continue to visit the Port City of St. John's this year.  The Regal Princess will carry the most passengers of any cruise ship to visit the Port City, arriving in September, with 3,605 passengers and 1,400 crew.
