Emergency Preparedness Week is May 6 to 12, this year’s theme is ‘Be Emergency Ready’.

The City of St. John’s joins all levels of government and safety organizations to encourage residents to take concrete action to be better prepared for emergencies. It is important to:

  • Know the risks – knowing the risks specific to your neighborhood, community and region can help you better prepare.
  • Make a plan – a plan will help you and your family know what to do.
  • Get an emergency kit – during an emergency you may need to survive without power or tap water. Be prepared to be self-sufficient for at least 72 hours in an emergency. There are many resources available, visit www.GetPrepared.ca for information and checklists, and talk to your family about making a plan today.

Remember, the best time to prepare for an emergency is when there isn’t one.
