The City Council agenda on Monday, March 28 includes a proposal from Regulatory Services to reinstate some fees associated with the City’s parklet program.

During the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, and the introduction of the Downtown Pedestrian Mall event, all fees were waived for businesses applying for and constructing parklets. Several fees were waived to help businesses during a time when seating capacity was significantly reduced due to public health social distancing restrictions. Fees waived included:

  • Building Permit fee
  • Parking Space Rental fee
  • Lease Agreement fee
  • Discretionary Use Application fee

In 2020 and 2021 the waiving of fees cost the City approximately $185,000 per year in lost revenue.

As many long-term heath restrictions are now lifted, and seating capacity inside businesses has returned to pre-pandemic levels, City Council will consider reinstating two of the fees for 2022 - the Building Permit fee and Parking Space Rental fee.

View the Decision Note online, and tune into the Council discussion during the web broadcast for the City Council meeting on Monday. If approved, the cost of leasing an average parking space will be approximately $385 per month.
