Four Properties Receive Awards on Heritage Day

Sunday, February 19, 2012 - 9:15 PM

The Heritage Area in the City of St. John's is a unique and vibrant part of our culture and each year on Heritage Day (the third Monday in February) the City of St. John's takes a moment to recognize individuals and businesses for their outstanding restoration efforts.

This year, during the weekly City Council meeting, Mayor Dennis O'Keefe will present Certificates of Recognition to the following residents and businesses:

  • Roman Halitzki Architecture for 28 LeMarchant Road
  • Killick Capital and Raymonds Restaurant for 95 Water Street
  • Jeff Reardon and Neal De Florio for 106 Water Street
  • Gary Holden and Earl Norman for 110 Water Street

"The Downtown Heritage Area is the heart and soul of our City and we are very pleased today to honour commercial and residential property owners for their work in rehabilitating, restoring and celebrating our rich built heritage," says Mayor O'Keefe. "These properties are a wonderful illustration of what can be accomplished when owners take pride in their homes, businesses and City. Congratulations to each of our award recipients on a job well done."

Deputy Mayor Shannie Duff, Chair of the City's Heritage Advisory Committee, said she is pleased to see even more properties being recognized this year for their efforts to preserve our City's unique heritage.

"As a committee, we could think of no day more appropriate than Heritage Day to take a moment and honour those residents and businesses who have gone the extra mile to ensure our Heritage Area remains vibrant and creative," says Deputy Mayor Duff. "We were very pleased with the nominations this year and are delighted to present four Certificates of Recognition today. I hope these buildings will encourage others to take the necessary steps to ensure their properties also represent our distinctive Downtown flavour."

The Heritage Association of Newfoundland and Labrador and the Newfoundland Historic Trust will also participate in the event, which includes a proclamation signing by the Mayor to officially recognize the day as Heritage Day.
