Thursday, July 16, 2015 - 10:45 AM

The general public are invited to attend the grand opening of the Edgar Hartery Memorial Field, formerly known as the minor league field at St.Pat’s Ballpark, Carpasian Road, on Monday, July 20 at 5:30 p.m.

The late Edgar Hartery, who passed away in November 2014, was involved in many community organizations.  He was a long-time Shamrock’s baseball team manager, a popular local sport personality, and a fixture at St. Pat’s Ballpark for nearly 50 years. He was synonymous with the Shamrocks and St. John’s Capitals baseball teams.

The park, which first opened in the late 1940s, was recently refurbished by the City of St.John’s.

During the grand opening of the newly re-named Edgar Hartrey Memorial Field a memorial plaque will be unveiled to commemorate his life and the many years he dedicated to the sport and the community.

Mayor Dennis O’Keefe, Councillor Danny Breen and Councillor Bernard Davis will be in attendance to bring greetings on behalf of City Council and to celebrate the life of the late Edgar Hartery with local residents. A community ballgame and reception will follow the ceremony.
