Heritage Award Winners

The built heritage in St. John’s is a significant part of our culture. Each year on Heritage Day, the third Monday in February, the City of St. John’s takes a moment to recognize individuals and businesses for their outstanding heritage restoration efforts.

“Congratulations to each of the award recipients for their commitment to protecting our identity through smart heritage development, which has a positive impact on the community and our economy,” said Councillor Maggie Burton, Council lead on Heritage.

This year, Certificates of Recognition have been awarded in several categories:

• Restoring the Original Character of a Building in Heritage Area 3 - Lori Rogers and Roxanne Przybysz for 114 Quidi Vidi Road
• Infill Development that Blends into a Heritage Area 1 Neighbourhood - Michael Ladha and Keir McIsaac for 118 Military Road
• Preserving and Restoring the Original Character of a Heritage Building - Paul Spurrell and Mitch O'Reilly on behalf of Gannet Construction for 189 Water Street
• Stewardship and Long-term Preservation of a Heritage Building - Jane Manuel on behalf of Posie Row Houses Inc. for The Tobin Building, 214 Duckworth Street
• Rehabilitating an Older Building, Including Successfully Integrating Modern Elements - Janet Gomes on behalf of The Hardman Group for the MIX Building, 345 Duckworth Street
• Stewardship and Long-term Preservation of a Building in Heritage Area 1 - Tom McGrath on behalf of St. Bonaventure’s College for 2A Bonaventure Avenue
