Housing Catalyst Fund Recipients Announced

Monday, April 19, 2021 - 12:15 PM

The 2021 recipients of the City of St. John’s Housing Catalyst Fund were announced at the Regular Meeting of Council today.

“The Housing Catalyst Fund allows the City to work collaboratively with our partners to facilitate and plan housing solutions for the residents of St. John’s,” explained Deputy Mayor Sheilagh O’Leary, Council Lead for Affordable Housing. “Our partnership with the Community Housing Transformation Centre enhances the Housing Catalyst Fund and allows us to better support these innovative and solution-focused projects.”

“The Centre is thrilled to be partnering with the City of St. John’s to help all these wonderful organizations,” says Centre program manager Renée Hébert. “The volunteers and staff in these groups have decades of experience assisting youth, women, new arrivals and those living with disabilities in finding suitable and affordable housing. Our grants will help these groups build on their own expertise and community knowledge so they can better serve the St. John’s population well into the future. We’re happy to play a part in that important transformation.”

Six grants totaling $135,000 are awarded for 2021:

  • End Homelessness St. John’s - $30,000
  • Association for New Canadians - $30,000
  • Empower - $30,000
  • Fundamental Inc. - $25,000
  • S.O.D. Housing Co-operative - $10,000
  • Cohousing NL - $10,000
