Congratulations to the City of St. John’s Housing Division!

On October 28, staff received a Luminary Award from takeCHARGE NL in the Leadership for an Organization category, during a virtual awards ceremony.

The Leadership Award (Organization) recognizes an establishment’s leadership and commitment to energy efficiency in Newfoundland and Labrador through activities such as planning, project development, energy management and employee engagement.

Staff in the City of St. John’s Housing Division have been working closely with Newfoundland Power to generate energy savings for tenants of City housing units.

“Over the past couple of years staff have installed HRV (heat recovery ventilator) units at our Campbell Avenue units and digital thermostats in our units on Forest Road.  We also had R30 insulation blown into all the attics of that same property this past summer,” says Judy Tobin, Manager of Housing Services.

The Housing Division have also received a donation of over 4,000 LED bulbs from NL Power that will be installed in all units upon turn over. The bulbs will also be distributed to existing tenants who pay their own Newfoundland Power bill.

“The City would also like to thank takeCHARGE for this nomination and award,” says Councillor Ophelia Ravencroft, lead Councillor for Housing.

With the continuous help and support of the City’s Maintenance Department, the goal of the Housing Division is to reinvest money received back into other units to create further energy savings for tenants.
