International Compost Awareness Week, May 1-7

May 1-7 is International Compost Awareness Week. The City of St. John’s works with partners MMSB and MUN Botanical Garden to provide a backyard compost course to St. John’s residents that then qualifies them to purchase a backyard compost bin from the City at a reduced price.

Composting Made Easy- Online Session

The Composting Made Easy! course is always available online and in-person sessions are offered during spring, summer and fall (listing below). The course is a basic introduction to backyard composting that teaches what composting is, how to compost properly and solutions to common problems – all from the composting experts at the MUN Botanical Garden.

Compost Bin at Reduced Price

  1. Complete the compost course at an in-person session or online
  2. Email curbit@stjohns.ca a copy of the Certificate of Completion, along with your house number and street name.
  3. Once a Case ID or reference number is provided by Curbit, choose the bin type you prefer and pay by calling Access St. John’s at 311 (credit card only) or visit at City Hall (credit, cash or debit). Standard bin is $50 taxes included, the tumbler bin is $75 taxes included. After payment, allow 7-10 business days for delivery.
