In keeping with St. John’s Sports & Entertainment Ltd.’s mandate to operate exceptional facilities that provide value to citizens, business and visitors by attracting events and activities that generate economic benefit and enhance community vibrancy, the Board is pleased to announce that a tentative deal has been reached with local ownership group 2001 Investments Limited to bring a new professional basketball team to Mile One Centre this fall.

A proposal received from 2001 Investments Limited in early July was reviewed and approved by both the Board and St. John’s City Council.

Lease negotiations are currently underway and the parties are working diligently to finalize the terms as soon as possible.

The new team will play in the American Basketball Association during the 2021-2022 season.

Further details will be released in the coming weeks.

SJSEL and management for the St. John's Edge were unable to come to terms on a new lease arrangement and the Edge will not be returning. SJSEL and the City would like to thank the Edge for the excitement and contributions they have brought to the province and wish them the best in future endeavours.

As for hockey, the Board is still very interested and eager to reach a lease agreement to bring the Growler’s back to Mile One for the upcoming season.
