We’re getting ready for construction season at the City of St. John’s, and first up in our planning and preparation is the fourth and final phase of the multi-year project to replace the Kenmount Road trunk storm sewer.

The 2021 phase of construction involves the area of Kenmount Road between Pippy Place and Team Gushue Highway Overpass. The tender for this work will be issued this week.

Replacing and upgrading the storm sewer along Kenmount Road is necessary to replace the existing aging infrastructure and provide additional capacity at the same time. The new storm sewer is significantly larger and deeper than the current storm systems, and hence requires large excavations and heavy lifts. The upgrades will improve the City’s Kenmount Road storm sewer infrastructure, allowing it to better respond to extreme weather events in the future.

Access to Businesses
While there may be disruptions to traffic from April to October, 2021, we will ensure that traffic continues to flow so that Kenmount Road will be open for business during construction.

Traffic on Kenmount Road will be maintained through the construction area. However, the number of lanes will be reduced to a single lane in each direction, and disruptions are expected. Access to businesses driveways will be maintained within the construction area. Pedestrian access will be maintained on at least one side of Kenmount Road during construction with posted signage in and near the construction zone.
