There are many advantages to living, studying, working and investing in St. John’s.

PanGeo is a St. John’s based, high-tech company working throughout the world. With 75 employees here and in offices in Halifax, Aberdeen and Taiwan, PanGeo is taking its place on the global stage.

In this video interview (also embedded below) with President and CEO Moya Cahill, Mayor Danny Breen learns about the PanGeo advantage and finds out more about this innovative and successful St. John’s operation.

PanGeo’s People:
“Our employees are homegrown here the province of Newfoundland and Labrador. Our universities  - the Marine Institute - provide some great graduates, and we use the co-op programs to bring these students in when they're young and fresh.  Our technology is very specific so it's a great opportunity to hire new grads and train them ourselves within our technology.”

PanGeo’s Technology:
“Our sub-bottom imager is a sensor that collects data from the subsea bed.  Just like an MRI images your organs, our sub-bottom imager images the geohazards in the subsea bed like boulders, cables or pipelines that would interfere with or create a hazard for the  installation of your equipment.”

PanGeo’s Pivot:
“We started out in the oil and gas sector where we still do a lot of work, but also now going forward we're getting very heavily involved in technology – with the installation of cables – and the offshore renewable energy sector, supporting the installation of wind turbines offshore... Everyone is going green; Canada has committed reducing carbon emissions. Here within Pangeo we're working at adapting our technology - making it smaller, making it automated so we'll be able to take the vessel out of the picture, reducing that carbon footprint in into the world and helping support Canada get to that goal of net zero by 2050.”

“When I meet people like Moya Cahill and see the operation of this international company from a base in our city, I am reminded that we have an amazing opportunity to step forward as the global leader we are in ocean technology.” Mayor Danny Breen

“Ocean technology is an industry that you can create a global footprint from right here in Newfoundland and Labrador. I encourage entrepreneurs to come to St. John's and see what it's like - it's a great place to do business.” Moya Cahill, President and CEO PanGeo

On August 3, Kraken Robotics Inc. announced that it has completed the acquisition of PGH Capital Inc., including Pangeo Subsea. Under Kraken’s ownership, PanGeo will continue to operate as a trusted name in sub-seabed imaging and will complement Kraken’s turnkey offering of high-resolution subsea imaging services from this province.
